UHI and Nairn County FC kick off partnership to boost student futures

A new partnership between the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and Nairn County Football Club is opening up exciting opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience, grow their skills, and make a real impact in the local community.

Through this collaboration, UHI students will be able to volunteer across a wide range of roles within the community-focused Highland League club – developing practical experience that complements their studies and enhances their career prospects.

Kevin Reid, Nairn County Football Club Chair, said:

"We are thrilled to welcome UHI students to Nairn County Football Club. Local partnerships are incredibly important to us. It is an exciting time for the club, and we hope to provide students with some valuable hands-on experience in a football environment."

Professor Keith Smyth, Dean of Learning, Teaching and Students, added:

“We are always looking for ways to connect learning with real-world impact. This collaboration with Nairn County Football Club is a perfect opportunity for our students to develop practical skills, contribute to their community, and boost their future career prospects.”

Students will have the chance to get involved in areas such as:

• Journalism – matchday and club reporting
• Photography
• Digital marketing, communications, and promotion
• Website development
• Event management
• Groundskeeping and facilities
• Sports coaching
• Sports injury therapy
• And other areas where students can contribute their skills or interests

This initiative, run by UHI Futures careers and employability centre, offers flexible volunteering opportunities designed to fit around study commitments, giving students the chance to build their CVs, strengthen teamwork and communication skills, expand professional networks, and feel part of the local community.

While a knowledge or interest in football is welcomed, it is not essential – the partnership is open to all students across the UHI partnership keen to gain valuable real-world experience in a supportive, community-driven environment.
