UHI Institute for Northern Studies Dr Andrew Lind Contributes to New Book on The Civil Wars
Dr Andrew Lind, UHI Institute for Northern Studies Lecturer, PL Early Modern European Studies and Acting Head of PGR Studies, has contributed five entries to the newly released volume: The Civil War in 100 Objects edited by Professor Andrew Hopper.
The civil wars that took place between 1638 and 1651 were some of the most destabilising conflicts ever faced by the British and Irish peoples. During this turbulent period, ordinary individuals throughout the British Isles experienced a whirlwind of change.
In this unique book, leading historians explore the world of poverty, loss, and suffering, set against significant developments in religion, science, and politics.

This work explores the past through 100 beautifully illustrated objects, ranging from propaganda manuscripts to everyday household items. It includes personal belongings and weapons owned by notable figures, as well as architecture that marked significant religious and military changes. These objects provide intimate connections to history and offer fresh perspectives on tumultuous times.
