Dr Andrew Jennings Invited Panellist in the First Islands United Nations Summit
On Friday, 30 May, Dr Andrew Jennings, Associate Professor in Island Studies at the UHI Institute for Northern Studies, was an invited panellist in the first Islands United Nations (IUN) Summit - a global virtual gathering of island scholars, youth leaders, and experts focused on resilience, identity and eco-cultural tourism.
This was the first-ever international assembly of Rotaract clubs representing island nations, including Costa Rica, Australia, Mauritius, the Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, Malta, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Vanuatu, Saint Lucia and others.
This youth-led initiative brought together island scholars, global experts and emerging changemakers to shape the future of climate resilience, sustainable tourism and cultural preservation in island nations.
Dr Jennings was invited as a leading scholar of island heritage, identity and history to offer vital perspectives on the deep cultural roots and evolving challenges faced by island peoples. Other contributors included Professor Godfrey Baldacchino and De Ilan Kelman. There were youth delegates from over 15 island nations.
